Behind the Projects
About Me
Hi, I'm Jack Schultz. I am a student at Adelaide University and am an aspiring software developer with a strong passion for learning. Since 2021, I've built a range of personal projects utilising Python, C++ and JavaScript. Almost all of my experience was self-taught before beginning a Bachelor of Computer Science degree in 2026.
I've coded Discord bots, run my own home server, mentored high school students in both robotics and problem-solving using python. I continue to enjoy the challenge of turning ideas into functioning technology, most notable of which is my Discord Bot now servicing over 85 thousand users.
What drives me
Curiosity has always been my main driver, I find myself jumping into systems, tools, or ideas simply to experiment. I've spent hours figuring out how to host a Minecraft server on my own linux server and learning how to interact with web APIs, I'm rarely satisfied with surface-level understanding. That mindset led me to explore new programming languages, build automation scripts for my everyday life. I don't like to wait to be taught, instead I tinker, break things, fix them, and learn.
Teaching Others
My love for coding evolved into a love for teaching others about the systems I explore. I've volunteered hundreds of hours helping others learn to program throughout high school, mentoring younger students in both robotics and coding clubs, and creating accessible examples to explain tricky concepts. I enjoy the challenge of explaining something as clearly as possible. Teaching pushes me to be a better developer: I have to understand my tools, communicate clearly, and stay curious enough to keep learning myself. Helping others grow is just as rewarding as building something new.
What I'm Building Towards
Right now, I'm focused on improving my skills and gaining hands-on experience in the tech industry. I'm especially drawn to roles where I can both build things and help others, whether that's through software development, support engineering, or technical education. Long-term, I'd love to work on tools that lower the barrier to entry for new developers or empower young learners.
I don't just want to build software that works. I want to build software that matters.
Life Outside of Tech
Though I spend a lot of time immersed in code, I try to keep life well-balanced. I enjoy learning Spanish, spending time outdoors hiking or cycling, and playing local multiplayer games with friends, especially chaotic couch party games where everyone's laughing in the same room. I've also played volleyball, tennis, and hockey competitively during school. Travel has played a big part in shaping my outlook too. I've lived on two continents, explored Southern Africa, and been part of a cultural exchange to Spain. These experiences help me stay open-minded, adaptable, and always ready for something new.
I value learning by doing and love sharing knowledge with peers. Outside of tech, I spend my time with friends and family, participating in sports or reading.
